If was first recorded in Malta (or rather Gozo) in 1997 and it has now spread to practically all local marine habitats, from the shore to deep water. Seagrapes are eaten in Indonesian cuisine, sometimes fresh, and othertimes coated in sugar. They have a peppery taste. They are raised in Cebu, for domestic consumption in the Philippines as well as export to Japan.
